746 UK arrests, £54m criminal cash, 77 firearms, and more than 2 tonnes of drugs were seized as part of 'Operation Venetic', the biggest of it's kind in the UK!
The operation was successful when an international law enforcement team seized the servers and decrypted the data. They then kept it running for two months to gather evidence on the criminal users. Although, not all users were criminals. Many were people looking for extra privacy and could afford the approximate £3000 yearly expense.
Unique phones were created with a top of the range encrypted messaging app 'EncroChat'. This saw the secure transaction of messages without prying eyes for years. The phones were also installed with software to remotely wipe them and completely erase the messages within a specified time limit after receipt.
